Cecilia C. Rhodes

ATHOL - Cecilia C. (Piette) Rhodes, 90, of 8 Pierce St., Athol, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in New Haven, CT, on July 11, 1918, the daughter of the late Maxen and the late Catherine (Flannagan) Piette. She grew up in Athol, attending local schools. She worked for the former Comb Shop in Athol, until she married the late Delbert H. Rhodes, Jr. in July of 1936. Mrs. Rhodes then worked as a Line Leader in the Indicator Room of L. S. Starrett Tool Company in Athol for twenty-five years, until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed camping with her family at Kenolie Village in Newfane, VT. Mrs. Rhodes was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them. She leaves one daughter, Joanne Akey of Athol; two sons, Robert Rhodes and his wife Patricia of Athol, Brian Rhodes and his wife Susan of North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Robert Rhodes, Michael Rhodes, Dennis Rhodes, Kimberly Rhodes, Kelly Rhodes, Danny Rhodes, Katy Rhodes, Terry Akey and his wife Monique, Sherry Johnstone and her husband Jeffrey, Cindy Mallet and her husband Robert, Gwen Talbot, Lori-Jo Oliver and her husband Richard; twenty great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Delbert H. Rhodes Jr., who died on August 28, 2001; by her brother, Robert Piette, and by her two sisters, Edith Cadwell and Florence Chiasson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 21, 2008 from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
