HUBBARDSTON- Charles Sumner Clark, 91, a lifelong resident of Hubbardston, died Friday, February 22, in his home after a prolonged illness.
Charles was born July 9, 1927, in Hubbardston, son of the late Lyman and Harriet (Butler) Clark. Charlie graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School studying carpentry. After trade school, he joined the US Navy toward the end of WWll and served during the liberation of China. Upon his return from the Navy, he worked as a carpenter, farmer, general mechanic, and truck driver. He worked for many years as a water well service technician traveling throughout the USA, Finland, Spain, Portugal, United Emerits, Columbia, and Central America. He served as past Deputy Chief of the Hubbardston Fire Department. Charlie loved his hometown and served on the Historical Commission and Open Spaces Committee. His selfless focus to serving his community was recognized by town officials through the dedication of Charles Clark Corner on upper Main Street. Having many skills and talents, he was a true "Jack of all trades", always willing and ready to help friends, family, neighbors, and strangers alike. If anyone needed help or a tool, Charlie was the man to call.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Marjorie (Wead) Clark; four sons, Lyman and his wife, Susan of Williston, VT, Dwayne and his wife, Lynne of Barre, Jeffrey and his wife, Tracy of Hubbardston, and Kevin and his fiancee, Alissa of Gardner; eight grandchildren, Nicole (Clark) St. Jean and her husband, Dan of Raymond, NH, Corey Clark of Chicago, Timothy Clark of Williston, VT, Megan and Jonathan Clark of Hubbardston, Lindsay, Eric, and Brandon and their mother, Donna Clark, all of Hubbardston; one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Rose St. Jean; four sisters, Evelyn Johnson of N. Attleboro, Eleanor Gallant of Gardner, Priscilla Johnson of Oxford, and Roberta Kenda of Gardner; many nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by two brothers, Hobart, and John Clark, and five sisters, Marjorie Bassett, Marion Gustafson, Harriet Mallozzi, Grace Luczko, and Ellen Langelier.
Calling hours are Tuesday, February 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Mack Family Funeral Homes, Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Chapel 105 Central St., Gardner.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 27, at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
