ORANGE: Charles Edward McDevitt, 68, of Orange, MA passed away on Sunday, May 31 at UMass Medical
Center surrounded by his family. Ed was born on December 24, 1946, in Cambridge, MA to the
late Charles and Mary (Bryan) McDevitt. He was a longtime resident of Arlington, MA and had
resided in Orange since 2005.
Ed attended Arlington Catholic High School and earned both a B.S. degree and a MBA from
Northeastern University. He was employed for more than 33 years as an engineer and contract
supervisor at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. He traveled extensively as a civilian
employee of the Air Force, retiring more than 13 years ago at the age of 55. In retirement, he
continued to travel and spent much of his free time on his hobby of analyzing the stock market.
He loved to study the Red Sox organization and was known for his extensive knowledge of Red
Sox statistics. Above all, Ed will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and devotion to
family.
Ed leaves his wife of 29 years, Margaret (Colo) McDevitt, formerly of Athol, MA, and a son Brian
Tommasini and his wife Katie. He has two grandchildren, Sean and Erin Tommasini. Ed's family
includes his sister Anne Gryncel and her fiancee Bill Morgan of Ashland, MA and her daughters,
the late Kelly Davis and her husband Scott, Lisa Spooner and husband Benjamin, and Kimberly
Mendes and husband Joseph. Ed also leaves his great niece Abby Davis and great nephew
Ryan Davis. Ed has numerous relatives from the local area, including William Colo, Barbara
(Colo) Guerin, Mary Colo, Peter Colo and their families.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 13. Calling hours will be from 8:45 10:15 at Fiske-
Murphy & Mack Funeral Home in Orange, MA. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 at Our Lady
Immaculate Church in Athol, followed by burial at Gethsemane Cemetery in Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kelly A. Davis Memorial
Scholarship Fund, via the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, in honor of Ed's niece who
