Christine Mary (Fairfield) Sonn

Christine M. Sonn Greenfield – Christine Mary (Fairfield) Sonn, 93, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield surrounded by her loving family.      Christine was born September 3, 1920 in Wilton, New Hampshire, the daughter of Edward L. and Velma T. (Nickerson) Fairfield.  She grew up in Wilton, New Hampshire where she lived for many years, graduating from Wilton High School in 1938.  She then moved to Milford following her marriage to David.   They then moved on to Fitchburg, MA returning to Milford and then to Athol, MA for over 30 years.   In 1993 she moved to Montague and since 2004 has resided in Greenfield.      Christine worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Athol Memorial Hospital for over 20 years where she also received her nurses training. She also worked at a nursing home in Milford for many years.  While living in Milford she was very active at the Milford United Methodist Church, was part of the “Helping Hands” group at the church, member of the Milford Senior Citizens Club, Lioness of the Milford Lions Club and was a member of A.A.R.P national and local chapters.      Christine leaves three sons, Thomas J. Sonn of Leesburg, FL, David E. Sonn of Hamilton, NY and James W. Fairfield-Sonn of Old Lyme, CT; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Fairfield of Concord, NH and a sister, Margaret Shaw of Wilton, NH and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years David A. Sonn who died in 2000, a daughter Martha C. Castine who died in 2013; three brothers, Otis, Amos, and Winston Fairfield; four sisters, Helen Lorette, Velma Swain, Jerry Bergeron and Peg Bischoff.      Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol, MA.   A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, 454 Nashua St., Milford, NH on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Christine’s name be made to:  the Athol Area Y.M.C.A., 545 Main St., Athol, MA  01331.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com $(document).ready(function(){ });
