ATHOL - Clifford P. Adams, 84, of 162 Fredette St., Athol, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Athol, on September 7, 1922, the son of the late Clifford P. and the late Annabelle (Dery) Adams.
He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1939. He graduated from Cushing Academy in 1940. He attended St. John´s Prep School, he left to operate his first business the former Koffee Kup Donuts in Athol.
Mr. Adams enlisted in the U.S. Marines in December of 1942 and served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
He married his high school sweetheart Gidge Fredette in April of 1945. He joined the family car dealership, Ernest T. Fredette Inc. and he became Manager of the Dodge, Plymouth Chrysler dealership in 1964. He was awarded a Chevrolet Buick franchise in 1967 as Dealer Operator of Fredette Chevy Buick.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church where he was past President of the Church Council and a founding member of the Holy Name Society. He taught CCD for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post No. 102 in Athol and a member of numerous other civic organizations.
After his retirement in 1981, he enjoyed many years of wintering in Florida and summers in Athol and traveling with his wife Gidge. He was accomplished in many sports through out his life but he especially enjoyed competitive golf. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of sixty-two years, Gidge (Fredette) Adams, six children, Debbie Kelly and her husband Ted of Weston, MA, Sally Ryder and her husband David of Tarpon Springs, FL, Larry Adams and his wife Debbie of Athol, Marylou Perry and her husband Rich of Stoughton, MA, Mike Adams and his wife Nancy of Tewksbury, Katie Campion and her husband Mark of Orange; seventeen grandchidren, Sonja (Kelly) Farmer and her husband Brent; Jenifer Ryder and her fiancee William O'Keefe; Jason Ryder; Nick Adams; Jessica Adams and her fiancee Dave Knoop; Rebecca Adams; Gregory Perry; Erica Perry; Kim (Adams) Driscoll and her husband Patrick; Mike Adams II; David Adams and his fiancee Amanda Carlton; Peter Adams; Anthony Castellano; Amy Castellano; Veronica Campion; Geoffrey Campion; Jonathan Campion; and four great grandchildren, Jason Farmer; Erin Farmer; Kevin Farmer and Skylar Knoop.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Tammy Lee Ryder and by his brother, Roger C. Adams,
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial with military honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home 137 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church - Building Fund, 192 School St., or to the Athol Memorial Hospital Auxillary, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331, or to NEADS (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans), P.O.
