Holyoke- Clifford J. Stone, 94, of Holyoke, died Saturday January 11, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was born January 27, 1919 in Athol, the son of the late James A. and Cloroda (Adams) Stone.
He grew up in Athol, and worked at L.S. Starrett Co. for two years. He was enlisted into the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a Life Member of American Legion Post 0353 in Willimansett, MA. He was also proprieter of the C & D Donut Shop in Holyoke, MA from 1948 to 1973. Then, he worked at Third National Bank in West Springfield before retiring in 1983.
Clifford leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth A. (Bavineau) Stone of Holyoke, four sons; James A. Stone of Longmeadow,MA, Jon C. Stone of Columbus, MS, Robert A. Stone of Tustin, CA, and Jeffrey C. Stone of Holyoke, MA, two daughters; Dianne Russell of Mountvile, PA, and Mary Lou Connolly of Ware, MA, one sister; Ruth Labrie of Athol, twelve grandchildren, Twenty-Three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held from the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road Orange on Thursday January 16, 2014 from 9:30am to 11:30am. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11:30am in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Pinegrove Cemetery, Templeton.
The family is requesting that flowers be omitted and donations in Clifford’s name be made to a charity of ones choice.
