Clinton W. Smith ATHOL – Clinton W. Smith, 71, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester surrounded by his loving family.      Clint was born in Orange, May 15, 1943, the son of James E. and Marion (Kimball) Smith, Sr. He has lived in Athol all of his life, graduating from Athol High School in 1961.      Clint worked for the Union Twist Drill for 18 years and the L.S. Starrett Co. for 18 years, retiring in 2009. He was a call firefighter for the Athol Fire Department for 30 years, was active with Boy Scout Troops # 16 and 18, was an avid reader, enjoyed following all the Boston sports teams and cooking.  He enjoyed working the election polls in Athol.  He most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.      He leaves his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. (Wright) Smith; a son, Brian Smith and his wife Tracy of Hubbardston, two daughters, Diana Cooley and her husband Dana of Petersham and Rhonda Whitney of Athol; six grandchildren, Shayna Stevens and her husband Will of Barre, Brandi Cooley of Fitchburg, Adam Cooley of Petersham , Bella Smith of Hubbardston, Greggory and Olivia Kimball of Athol, great-grandchildren Daisy Stevens and Savannah Cordio; three brothers, Scott Smith of Groton, CT, James Smith and his wife Betty Ann of Athol, Steven Smith and his wife Sheila of Athol and two sisters, Jean Kendrick and her husband Harry of Wilder, VT and Pat Finnegan of Worcester. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Christie Smith.      A graveside service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Silver Lake Cemetery (main entrance off Silver Lake Street). A reception will follow at the Orange American Legion Post on Daniel Shays Highway in Orange. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Clinton’s name be made to: American Heart Association, Mass. Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA  01701 or The American Lung Association, 393 Maple Street, Springfield, MA  01105. Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol is directing arrangements.
