ATHOL - Clytie Helena "Helen" (Leyton) Wesson, 99 of 490 Templeton Rd., Athol, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 peacefully at home surrounded by those she loved.
She was born in Holbrook, MA, on October 2, 1909, the daughter of the late Harold C. and the late Clytie Izorah (Marson) Leyton.
She graduated Petersham High School in 1928 and was a lifelong member of the Petersham Alumni Association.
Helen married Frederick A. Wesson on April 29, 1944 in Athol. Fred Died on October 17, 1973. Helen resided on Templeton Road since 1945.
Helen Worked briefly for the Ansin Shoe Company in Athol before her employment at the former Union Twist Drill as a point grinder. She retired from UTD in 1972 after 43 years of employment there.
She enjoyed the outdoors and continued to do all her own lawn and gardening work into her late 80's. She especially loved knitting, crocheting, needlepoint work, reading, crossword puzzles, watching sports, and tending to her blueberries. Watching the birds and wildlife brought much enjoyment as well and she loved the company of the family pets.
She will be fondly remembered as the Blueberry Lady.
She resided with Cindy, Eli, Nathan, and Justin Houle of Templeton Road, Athol who regarded her as a grandmother.
She leaves her sister in-law Susan Thomas of Ft. Pierce, FL; sister-in-law Janet Thomas of Athol and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers; David A. Thomas, Harold X. Leyton, C. Dana Leyton, and C. Melvin Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home.
