Constance O. Gutkopf

ATHOL - Constance O. Gutkopf, age 91, of Gardner, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home. She was born July 17, 1925 in Royalston and is the daughter of the late Walter M. and the late Fannie E. (Robinson) Durant. She was the youngest of eight children. Connie grew up in Royalston and graduated from Athol High school in 1943. She has resided in Athol since 1951. She worked for L. S. Starrett Company for several years and later worked for the former Athol Gas Company for 16 years until her retirement She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church, taught Sunday school for several years. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, sewing, knitting, canning, gardening, camping and target shooting with her husband. She is survived by two sons: Lee W. Gutkopf of Athol and Roger K. Gutkopf of St. Albans, VT; She also has four grandchildren; Jessica Gutkopf of Stark, FL, Lee M. Gutkopf of Athol, April Gutkopf of St. Albans, VT, and Mariah Gutkopf of St. Albans, VT and four great grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband George Gutkopf, her brother, Lester M. Durant and five sisters, Clara Wilson, Annie Woodbury, Lena King, Iola Buckman and Lillian Gregson. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 1:00 PM in Higgins- O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St. Athol, with Rev. Beverly Prestwood Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday, October 17th from 7-9 PM in the funeral home. Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, is directing arrangements.
