Leominster – Corinne M. (Banville) (Nass) Shepherd, 105, of Leominster, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 4, 2012, after a short illness. Corinne was born in Fall River, MA on March 22, 1907, to Jean B. and Adelaide (Lizzotte) Banville. She was the fifth of eleven children, and for many years after her mother died, Corinne was the caretaker of her younger siblings.
Mrs. Shepherd was the oldest living resident in the City of Leominster. She was awarded the Post Cane by Mayor Dean Mazzarella at her 105th birthday party celebrated at her home in March of 2012. She enjoyed seeing the Mayor on her 100th and 105th birthdays.
Corinne was married to her first husband, Raymond Nass, in May of 1935 until his passing 17 years later in 1953. She and Raymond earned money picking apples to build the home she lived in until her death.
Mrs. Shepherd married her second husband, Zarmair Shepherd, on February 6, 1959 and was married for 39 years until his passing in 1999. Mrs. Shepherd enjoyed working with Zarmair in his bicycle business and assisting him in his duties as Recreational Director at Foster Grants Company, where she was a bookkeeper. She enjoyed attending New England sporting events and theatrical performances with Zarmair.
Corinne was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Church in Leominster and a devout Catholic. She was a very positive person, demonstrating humor and wit, even in her last days of life.
Mrs. Shepherd leaves behind one sister, Lorraine Poisson of Sebastopol, CA, her niece Judy Arnold and her husband Warren of Leominster, MA, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her friends and family would like to thank the staff of Leominster Hospital and UMass University Hospitals for the excellent care she received during her stays. Corinne appreciated the professional and caring staff of the Right at Home Agency who helped care for her in her home.
Calling hours will be held from the Simard Funeral Home 14 Walker Street, Leominster, MA on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:30 am in the Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union Street, Leominster, MA.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Main Street, Leominster, MA.
