Athol – Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Fowler was born on June 7, 1946 to Mary Ann Kelly in Painesville, OH, she was adopted by her parents, Raymond and Jennie Kelly and moved to Orange, MA where she grew up. She graduated from Mahar Regional High School in 1964, and worked for Erving Paper and Tyler Millwork.
Cindy married Bruce K. Fowler Jr. on July 29, 1967. They enjoyed almost 51 years together. An auto accident five weeks after they were married left Cindy in a wheelchair. With indomitable spirit, she never let the chair slow her down.
She was the Town of Athol’s Handicap and ADA Coordinator for many years, the Athol-Royalston Regional School Committee for nine years and chair for a year. She was also a member of the Athol Lions Club, and served as the chair of the Scholarship Committee.
The Lions presented Cindy with the Joseph Camarda Fellow Award, representing a club donation of $500 in her name to the District Sight and Hearing Fund, as well as the highest award in the Lions Club, the Melvin Jones Award, representing a club donation in her honor to the Lions Club International Foundation of $1,000.
She and her dear friend, Cindy Gates, worked with many others, including, Father Peter Joyce, to help set up and chaperone the “Crossroads” Teen Center for years.
A very special thank you to the Nurses, CNAs, Aids and Staff at the Quabbin Rehab, where she had several lengthy stays in her later years. They were always special to her and treated her like family.
Cindy is survived by her husband; Bruce, sons; Christopher and his wife Jan of Athol, Donny and his wife Laurie of New Milford, CT, sister; Wendy and her husband Steve of Lake Geneva, WI, brother; Jack Walbrant and his wife Pamela of Mitchellville, TN, sister-in-laws; Lisba Fowler of Berkeley, CA, Maggie Judycki and her husband Dennis of Annadale, VA, Favorite Aunt; Evelyn Fell of Burlington, WI and her Best Friend and confidant “Other Cindy” Gates of Athol.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 5-8pm in the Higgins O’Connor Chapel 146 Main St. Athol. Casual dress please, Cindy would like that!
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10am at the Athol Congregational Church 1225 Chestnut St. Athol.
Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Cindy asked that memorial donations be made to the Athol Lions Scholarship Fund P.O. Box 54 Athol, MA 01331.
