ATHOL - Cynthia I. (Hodge) Hawkins, 63 of 191 Pinedale Rd., Athol, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at home surrounded by her family, having fought ovarian cancer for more than eight years with hope and always a smile. Cindy loved her family wholeheartedly as they did her. She was born at the Winchendon Hospital, on April 25, 1947, the daughter of the late James E. and Dorothy L. (Kent) Hodge. Cindy was a registered Dental Hygienist, graduating from the University of Bridgeport, CT. She worked for several general dentists and dental specialists throughout the North Quabbin area. Cindy was also an accomplished restorationist of fine china and pottery, having studied with a number of master restorationists. She taught these skills to several students who came from throughout the country. She loved fishing with her father and introducing nature to her children and grandchildren. She and her sister loved Georgia and their mother's southern relatives. She leaves her husband of 40 years: Joseph Hawkins; their three daughters: Jennifer and her husband Darryl Berenson with their children: Connor, MacKenzie and Molly all of Belchertown; Kathryn Hawkins of Lincoln, Melissa Hawkins of South Deerfield; her mother Dorothy Hodge of Orange; her sister: Christina Littlewood of Athol and her children: Mary and her husband Eric Jacobson of NY, Michael Littlewood of Athol. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:30 am in the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island St., Athol. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. There will be an afternoon of prayer and celebration of Cynthia's life on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Cindy Hawkins Cure Ovarian Cancer Fund, C/O the Athol Savings Bank, 388 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
