Athol – Daniel Alex Schlagel, 66 of Athol, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at home.
Daniel was born on November 6, 1952 in Denver Colorado to the late Alex Schlagel and the late Rose T. Schlagel. He received his BS in Computer Science and was an active military member of the United States Army. He joined the Army in 1972, reenlisted in 1976 and retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the Vietnam and Persian Gulf War / Desert Storm. He was a strategic systems repairer for 20 years in the Army. He enjoyed computers, volunteering, helping the elderly and watching movies.
He is survived by two brothers: Frank Schlagel and William Schlagel; one sister: Rose Buckner; nieces and nephews: Tammy Hall, Richard Joseph Heidenreich, Elizabeth Heidenreich, Mark Heidenreich, Theresa Nielsen, Ronald Jacobson, Veronica Jacobson, Henry John Heidenreich, Rosanna Schlagel, Barnabas Schlagel, and Melissa Schlagel.
Besides his parents, Daniel was predeceased by two brothers: Richard Heidenreich, Henry Heidenreich; one sister: Barbara Kaufhold and one nephew Todd Jacobson.
A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA.
