Orange City, FL-Danny M. “Bookem” Battaini, 60, of Orange City, FL and formerly of Athol, died suddenly at home on March 1, 2018. Danny was born in Athol on September 8, 1957, the son of Theresa P. Battaini and the late William J. Battaini, Sr. He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School, Class of 1975, where he excelled on the golf team. Danny was a Produce Manager at First National Grocery, worked at Ledgard’s, was a bartender for many years, and worked in many odd jobs including, a plumber’s apprentice. He loved playing darts, going on cruises with friends and sharing his father’s love of horse racing, he was often seen at the racetrack in Hinsdale. He had a love and deep knowledge of birds and nature. At least in the opinion of his family, no field guides were required when Bookem was on the trail with you. Loving the sunshine, warm weather and flip flops, he followed his parents to Florida in 2004 where he purchased his first home in Debary; and his second in Orange City. Danny had a powerful laugh, a never ending sense of humor, and was always the life of the party. He so loved his nieces and nephews and they adored their Uncle Bookem.
He is survived by his mother, Theresa P. Battaini of The Villages, FL; five sisters, Sally A. (Lane) Teittinen of Summerfield, FL, Peggy J. Battaini of Belchertown, Terry L. (John) Cloutier of Royalston, Jody M. (David) Corey of Baldwinville, and Tammy M. (Matthew) Caissie of Phillipston; 4 brothers, William J. (Mary) Battaini, Jr. of Summerfield, FL, John M.
