ATHOL - David Clifford Adams, 80, of 405 Adams Drive, Athol, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
David was born in Athol on January 16, 1931, the son of Theodore and Claire (Powers) Adams. He graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1950. Mr. Adams was a lifelong resident of Athol and a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as Private First Class from 1952 to 1954 and received the National Defense Medal.
Mr. Adams worked for the former Union Twist Drill Company in Athol for forty-three years. More recently, Mr. Adams worked in the maintenance department of the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans Association. David’s hobbies were gardening, hunting and fishing, also he was proud to be one of the original River Rat Race paddlers.
He leaves his two daughters, Vernalee Marie of Athol, Charlene Sundstrom of Phillipston; one brother, Timothy Adams and his wife Mary of Washington; six grandchildren, Garrett Britt of Athol, Scott Britt of Virginia, Marissa Peters and her husband Dennis of Athol, Jeffrey Harrington of Winchendon, Colby Sundstrom of Athol, Hayleigh Sundstrom of Phillipston; four great grandchildren, Javier and Jazmine Britt of Virginia, Ariel and Alyssa Peters of Athol; his very special neighbor, Leah Hachey of Athol, also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Daniel Paul Adams, in 1991; also by his brothers, Richard Adams and Theodore Adams, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.
Burial will be Monday, December 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331 or Disabled American Veterans Chapter 46, P.O. Box 746, Athol, MA 01331.
