ORANGE- David H. Burbank, 89, of Orange, died Friday, May 4, at Heywood Hospital after a brief illness.
He leaves his daughter, Melissa Burbank and her companion, Kevin McGuirk of Fitzwilliam, NH; one grandson, Seth Sienkiewicz and his wife, Aimee; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Logan, and Alexis Sienkiewicz all of Franklin, MA; one sister, June Fournier of York, ME; one brother, Keith Burbank of Norman, OK.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Taylor) Burbank, and two sisters, Marion Bacon and Gloria Sleeper.
David was born April 23, 1929, in Athol, son of the late Harry and Florence (LaQuire) Burbank. As a young man he worked at Ledges Greenhouse before pursuing a career in plumbing and heating. David successfully operated Burbank Plumbing and Heating in the Athol-Orange area for many years until his retirement.
He enjoyed traveling including trips to the Caribbean and Europe with his wife, Jackie, to Australia with his daughter, Melissa, and many cruises with his brother, sisters, and friends.
Flying with his buddies at Orange Airport was his passion. He especially enjoyed their many trips to the annual air show in Oshkosh, WI. He even built and flew a Challenger Ultralight aircraft.
He belonged to the Athol-Orange Aero Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Shirley Crow Hoppers.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, from 12:00 to 1:30 P.M. with the funeral following at 1:30 at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Quabbin Animal Control, c/o Athol Police Station, 280 Exchange St., Athol, MA 01331. Checks may be made payable to the Town of Athol.
