David B. Raymond Athol – David B. Raymond, 78, of 53 Beacon Street, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.      David was born in Athol, Massachusetts, November 30, 1934, the son of Merrill and Arline (Bancroft) Raymond.  He has lived in Athol all of his life, graduating from Athol High School in 1954.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War serving on the USS Navarro.      While in high school David worked at the A & P Grocery Store.  David owned and operated the Athol Printing Company for 25 years (they printed the Athol Advertiser for many years).  He later worked at the Union Twist Drill for three years and the L.S. Starrett Company for 10 years, retiring in 1999.      David was a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks #1837, the former Exchange Club, served on the Recreation Commission for the Town of Athol, and was member of the Orange American Legion Post #172.   He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.      David’s wife of 53 years Patricia M. (Cromp) Raymond died February 10, 2013. He leaves three children, David S. Raymond, Diane Woessner and her husband James and Daniel Raymond, all of Athol; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Errin, Matt, Paige, Thomas, Daniel, Kurtis, Lauren and Carly Spaulding and her husband Sean; a brother, Roger Raymond of Saco, ME; a sister, Joan Carr of Westborough and several nieces and nephews, expecting first great grandchild in September.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Kroyman and Claire Elwell.      Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 am  at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church, officiating.  Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be held at the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans’ Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in David’s name to:  Camp Wiyaka, c/o Athol Area YMCA, 545 Main St., Athol, MA  01331 For further information or to share a memory with the family go to:  www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
