David M. Saxby, Sr. Orange – David M. Saxby, Sr., 84, of Chase Street, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the Athol Hospital.      David was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, December 6, 1929, the son of Roy and Bernice (Partridge) Saxby.  He grew up in New Boston, NH, attending schools there, later moving to Derry, NH for 10 years, graduating from Derry High School.    He also had lived in Hartford, CT, Seattle, WA, Pepperell, MA, Athol, MA and since 2007 has resided in Orange.       David worked at Bemis Bag Company in Pepperell for 24 years. He also worked as a truck driver for many years and while living in Seattle worked for a canning company and an aircraft manufacturer. He was formerly a member of the United Church of Christ in Brookline and while living in Athol he attended the Athol Congregational Church.  Since moving to Orange he has been a member of Central Congregational Church.  He loved going to church and always wanted to learn more about his savior Jesus Christ.  He attended bible study and missions meetings where his faith and knowledge contributed greatly to discussions.  David had a Christian giving nature with a willing spirit and his ever present sense of humor will be greatly missed.   He enjoyed traveling, collecting and building model railroad H-O scale, was a member of the AARP and a former Boy Scout Master for 10 years in Brookline.      He leaves three sons; David M. Saxby, Jr. of OH, Scott Saxby of Marlboro, NH and Brian Saxby of Athol; two brothers, Howard and Willard Saxby and a sister, Margie Saxby and several grandchildren.   He was predeceased by his first wife of 25 years, Marilyn Cook who died in 1986 and his second wife of 18 years, Shirley Jean who died in 2007.      A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.  at the Central Congregational Church, 93 South Main Street, Orange with the Rev. Dr. Megan Leary, pastor officiating.  Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans, VT in the spring.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in David’s name to:  The Central Congregational Church, missions committee, 93 South Main St., Orange, MA  01364.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements.   For further information or to share a memory go to:  www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com.   $(document).ready(function(){ });
