GARDNER- Delbert Aaron Greenwood, 85, of West Enfield, Maine, formerly of Gardner and Westminster, died Friday, January 1, in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, after an illness.
He was born March 26, 1930, in Gardner, son of the late Aaron A. and Ellen (Riley) Greenwood. He graduated as President of Gardner High School Class of 1948. He received his degree from UMass Amherst and attended Boston College School of Law.
Mr. Greenwood was Chief Probation Officer for Gardner District Court for 33 years and was instrumental in the court becoming the first nationally accredited court with excellence in standards in 1980. He was elected President of the Chief Probation Officers Association for over 20 years. He was also the Regional Supervisor of the Office of the Commissioner of Probation for Worcester, Suffolk, and Middlesex counties. Having become an expert in the field, he reorganized the juvenile justice laws in MA. Following his retirement, Mr. Greenwood was broker and owner of Penobscot Realty in Maine.
He served on the board for the Gardner Mental Health Committee, was one of the founders of GAAMHA, was a trial judge for the American Kennel Club, served on many committees the the request of the Chief Justice, was a coach for Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He had a keen interest in politics.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing. He loved living on the Penobscot River, he cherished his camp at West Grand Lake, Maine, and loves spending time with family and friends.
He leaves his wife, Carol L. (Luscombe) Greenwood; three sons, Robert T. Greenwood of West Enfield, ME, John Greenwood of Orange, and Stephen Greenwood and his wife, Katie, of Ashburnham; two grandchildren, Noah Maillet and Allison Greenwood; two stepsons, David L. Keough and his wife, Lori of Natick, and K. Matthew Keough of Gardner; one stepdaughter, Deborah Keough of Gardner; five step grandchildren, David, Sharla, Shawn, Timothy, and Tyler; one great grandson, Hunter; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 27 years, Paula M. (Harasimowicz) Greenwood, and three brothers, Alvin, Kenneth, and Merton.

Saturday, January 9, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. In Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will follow on Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
