ORANGE - Denis A. Songer, 85 of 92 Wheeler Ave., Orange, died Monday, May 9, 2016 in The Highlands Nursing Home, Fitchburg.
He was born in Orange, on October 13, 1930, the son of the late John S. Songer and the late Jessie (Kimball) Songer. Denis married Joan A. (Newton) Songer on March 15, 1952.
He grew up in Orange and attended New Salem Academy. He worked as a foreman for the J. F. MacElwin Shoe Company, was a supervisor at the L.S. Starrett Tools Company where he worked for 20 years. He was owner of the White Cloud Restaurant from 1967 to 1974.
Denis was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Knight of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Tully C.C.C. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his house, motorcycling and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Joan A.(Newton) Songer, three daughters: Theresa Jean Richards and her husband Alan of Pulaski, NY, Jill Michelle Widelo and her husband John of Orange, Nicole Maselli and her husband Michael of Athol, two sons, Scott Songer and his companion Anne Lozier of Tully, Dana Songer and his wife Debora of Warwick; two brothers, Frank Songer and his wife Marie of Athol, Lawrence Songer and his wife Josephine of Orange; four grandchildren, Aaron, Kelly, Derek and Thomas; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five sisters: Mildred Bianchi, Clara Wesockes, Freada Songer, Jessie Belletete, Annie Songer and by three brothers: Maurice Songer, John Songer and Elsworth Songer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress St., Orange. Burial will follow in South Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road, Orange.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
