WARWICK, RI - Diane Marie Mazejka, 54, of Warwick, RI, and formerly of Athol, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 8, 2011 at her home.
Diane was born in Athol on December 28, 1956, and was raised and educated in Athol. She graduated from Athol High School and was salutatorian of the class of 1975. She was very active on the basketball and softball teams. While in high school, Diane was a member of the National Honor Society and a cast member of many plays. She studied business administration and theatre at Leicester Junior College and later moved to Rio Ranchero, New Mexico where she resided for about five years. Diane moved back to Massachusetts in the 1990's and lived in the Springfield area for over ten years. Most recently, Diane was able to work with her green thumb while employed by Robert Baker Nurseries in Connecticut for seven years as propagation manager. She resided in Bristol, CT for a few years before moving to Warwick, RI a year ago. She was a very creative and artistic woman, an excellent gardener who was able to envision a beautiful garden and create it as if it were her masterpiece. Diane also wrote many beautiful poems throughout her life and was very passionate about animals. She made regular donations to ASPCA organizations and was an animal care advocate. Diane was trusted by each animal she met and went out of her way to feed and help animals. She was a big fan of the Celtics and Miami Dolphins and enjoyed collecting her favorite teams' memorabilia. Most importantly, Diane was a kind and caring woman. She was "Auntie Dede" to her nieces and nephews, whom she cherished dearly, and a beloved sister and daughter who will be greatly missed.
Diane leaves her mother, Mary A. (Robisauskas) Mazejka of Athol; two sisters, Ronni Ricker of West Greenwich, RI, Marie Winchester of Orange; four nieces and nephews; seven great nieces and great nephews; and her longtime friends, Kathy, David and Amanda Kassing of Colrain.
She was predeceased by her father, Edward J. Mazejka, on November 11, 2010.
Funeral services and burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol, will be private.
There are no calling hours.
