ATHOL - Dominey J. Smith, Jr., 82 of Athol, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at home.
He was born in Altona, NY, on July 11, 1933, the son of the late Dominey J. and the late Laura I. (Forette) Smith.
He was raised and educated in New York and has been a resident of Athol since moving here in 1950. Mr. Smith worked for Mallet & Son Excavating from 1962 until his retirement. He had previously worked for the Athol Coal Company. He was a member of the Franco-American Club and a lifetime member of the American Lithuanian Naturalization Club in Athol and a founding member of the 25 Sportsman Club of Athol. Dominey enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 2005 he was awarded #1 typical Buck Rack in MA.
He leaves three daughters: Sandra Biegen and her husband Joe of Orange, Anna M. Sullivan and her husband Robert of Torrington, CT, Bonnie Montgomery and her husband Paul of Amarillo, TX; three sons: Roy A. Smith and his wife Lonnie of Athol, Donald L. Smith and his wife Arlene of Athol, Brian C. Smith and his wife Julie of Athol; two sisters: Pauline "Che Che" Foster of Orange, Valida Smith of Orange; fourteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl Vancourt who died 1998; his brother, Larry Smith; and his sister, Rita Lafountain.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
