ATHOL – Donald H. Bassett Jr., 82 of Athol, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at home, Surrounded by his family.
Don was born on December 8, 1938 in Spencer, MA to the late Donald H. Bassett and the late Ruby (Loomis) Bassett. Over the years, Don worked for Athol Table Shop, Athol Machine Shop, Cass Toys and for 17 years at J. F. McElwain Shoe Company. Along with his wife Helen, Don volunteered at Hazel’s Community Center in Orange for over 23 years. He enjoyed yard sales and riding in the car to Ware and Keene, NH.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years: Helen L. (Young) Bassett of Athol; two sons: Kenneth Basset and his wife Gayle of Athol, Keith Bassett and his wife Kathy of Troy, NH; one daughter: Rebecca Bassett and her companion Mark Meunier of Gardner; six grandchildren: Keith Bassett and his wife Mayra, Garrick Bassett and his wife Cera, Jacob Bassett, Carley Bassett, Katelyn Koski, Emily Desruisseau; three great grandchildren: Ethan and Jillian Bassett, Violet Bassett; one sister: Arlene Wise; many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by two brothers: Cecil Bosworth, Richard Bosworth; one sister Edna Castine.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 19th at 10am in Silver lake Cemetery, Horrigan Ave. entrance, Athol.
