GARDNER - Donald Francis Chouinard, 71 of 77 Glenwood Street, Gardner, died Friday, October 16, 2009 in the St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
He was born in Lowell, on June 23, 1938, the son of the late Diogene and the late Melvina (Bousquet) Chouinard.
He lived in Lowell and Fitchburg and has been a resident of Gardner since 1965. He was educated in Fitchburg schools.
Mr. Chouinard was employed at Meade Container in Gardner and later retired from New England Woodenware. He also worked at Simplex and Tyco. He served in the National Guard 181st. Infantry of Gardner for over thirty years. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church of Gardner.
He enjoyed lawn work, scratch tickets, the Red Sox, taking walks, flea markets, cooking and spending time with his family and grandsons.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Kathy (Rachupka) Chouinard; two daughters, Debbie Batutis and her husband Pete of Gardner, Cindy Guay and her husband Todd of Nashua, NH; his greatest son, Chris Chouinard of Gardner; one sister, Lillian Marois of Fitchburg; two brothers, Robert Chouinard and his wife Judy of Fitchburg, Conrad Chouinard and his wife Paula of Florida; three grandsons, Keith Guay, Jason Guay, Evan Guay all of Nashua, NH; his best friend, John Neville of Gardner; a brother in-law, Joseph Rachupka of Gardner; and his bird, Pete.
Two sisters, Maryanne Boucher and Maggie Dauphanise, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner.
