Donald W. McCurda

  ATHOL - Donald William McCurda, 89 of 86 Fredette Street, Athol, passed from death to life eternal on Thursday, August 23, 2012 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol. He was born in Boston, on October 28, 1922, the son of Everett G and Jane M (Mitchell) McCurda, Sr.. He graduated from Rindge Tech High School in Carmbridge.   He worked for the L.S. Starrett Company for 34 years he retired in 1985.  He was a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks for 51 years and was a member of the former Athol Rod & Gun Club.             He leaves cousins-in-law, Harold Rohrbach of Foxboro, Joseph Lord of Walpole; second cousins, Marilyn Lucas of Foxboro, Judith Perreault of Bow, NH, Majorie Sutherlin of Lakeville, Ohio, Carol Losee of Richmond, VA, Nancy Shearer of Centerville, Stephen Lord of Mansfield; and the following who he considered his family; Ruth MacEwen of Athol; Sue Britt and her husband Ernie of Athol, Martha Carey and her husband Brian and children of Athol, Angela Littlewood and her husband Curt and children of Orange. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara M. (Bigwood) McCurda who died in 1972; and by his brother, Everett G McCurda, Jr. who died in 2002. He enjoyed visiting with his friends at McDonald’s on a daily basis. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 1365 Main Street, Athol.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
