Donald J. Poirier
Athol – Donald J. Poirier, 87, formerly of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at his son’s home in Winchendon following a brief illness.
Don was born in Malden, MA, October 26, 1927, the son of Alfred M. and Justine (Bourque) Poirier. He grew up in Leominster, graduating from Leominster High School and from Boy’s Trade School in
Worcester, learning the plumbing trade. He also had lived in Amesbury for many years and since 1986 has resided in Athol. Don served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the signal corps.
He has been a licensed plumber since 1946, working for Local #4 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union in Worcester. Don was a member of the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks, the Leominster Eagles Lodge and enjoyed playing golf.
He leaves three sons, Anthony J. Poirier of Winchendon, Alfred M. Poirier of Winchester, NH and
Salvatore Attianese of Tampa, FL; three daughters, Jean Casavechia of Hinsdale, NH, Lucy Gardner and Donna Poirier, both of ME and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. he also leaves a sister, Claire Robichaud of Leominster. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jennie (Scappa) Poirier in 1976 and his second wife Mafalda (Rotondi) Poirier in 2008.
A private Celebration of Don’s life will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster at a later date. Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street,
