ORANGE - Donald R. Putnam, 63, of 200 Dana Rd., Orange, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Worcester on October 2, 1946, the son of the late David N. and the late Anita S. (Veinot) Putnam.
Mr. Putnam was raised and educated in Worcester, graduating from the former Commerce High School with the class of 1964. He served during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy from February 5, 1965 to June 2, 1967 as a Gunner's Mate Third Class. While in the Navy, he became a member of the Domain of the Golden Dragons 180th Meridian aboard the USS Warrington and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He was employed by the former Parker Manufacturing Company in Worcester as a Foreman and Grinder Operator for twenty-eight years. He has been a resident of Orange for nineteen years. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of forty-two years, Mary J. (Barrette) Putnam; one son, David F. Putnam of Orange; two brothers, Charles Putnam of Brookfield, Alan Putnam of Concord; one sister, Dorothy Putnam of California; three nieces, Tina Gove of Florida, Kari Higgins of Worcester, and Heidi Miller of Oxford.
Graveside services will be held Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Worcester Memorial Park Cemetery, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
