Donald C. Ramsdell

GARDNER - Donald C. Ramsdell, 82 of 137 Vernon Street, Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, January 16, 2010 in the Health Alliance Leominster Campus, Leominster surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born in Windsor, CT, on October 9, 1927, the son of the late Vernon and the late Annie (Kidney) Ramsdell. He grew up and was educated in Gardner. Mr. Ramsdell served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by L and Z Kamman for many years and after their closing he worked for the City of Gardner at the Mary Kane Building for 10 years retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Gardner V.F.W. and the Gardner American Legion. He played semi-pro football for the Hillside Gymnasts, coached Pop Warner football and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He leaves two daughters, Patricia Zub of Portland, ME, Christine Janhunen of Baldwinville; three sons, Randy Ramsdell and his wife Linda of Ashburnham, Thomas Ramsdell and his wife Linda of Royalston, James Ramsdell of Gardner; one brother, Neil Ramsdell of North Fort Myers, FL; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his former wife, Frances L. (Boguzis) Hamilton of Royalston. He was predeceased by a son Allan Ramsdell, by two brothers, Earl Ramsdell, Vernon Ramsdell, and by two sisters, Dorothy Knower and Norma Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Gardner V.F.W.
