MARLBOROUGH – The Sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of Sr. Doris Bernard, formerly known as Sr. St. Bernard who passed away at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough, MA on Thursday, June 23, 2016.
She was born on April 15, 1927 in Southbridge MA, the fourth child of Edward & Nellie (Lamoureux) Bernard.
Sr. Doris joined the Sisters of the Assumption on the twenty-first of August 1946 and was well known and loved as a dedicated kindergarten, first and second grade teacher. She taught in a number of schools in Lowell, Spencer, Chicopee Falls, Southbridge and Brockton, MA, as well as Bristol, CT.
Sr. Doris is survived by several nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of the Assumption worldwide. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Bernard and his wife Jeanne, and her sisters, Claire Turcotte and Jeanne Ferron.
Calling hours will be held at the Sisters of St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough, MA, on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., closing with a Prayer Service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Sisters of St. Anne. Sr. Doris will be laid to rest in East Street Cemetery, Petersham, MA.
