Dorith Washington, age 96, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away on November 11, 2024 after a short illness. Dorith was born on December 05, 1927, in Vienna, Austria, to the late Johann and Katarina Novak. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who brought joy and warmth to all those who knew her.
Dorith leaves behind her beloved husband Frederick, one daughter Susan Comeaux, one son John Washington and his wife Bonnie Washington, her granddaughter Bonnie Pierce, her grandson Michael Comeaux and his wife Marie Comeaux, three great granddaughters Bria, Emma and Tessa Comeaux, close family friends Steve, Carol and Rozanne Weston, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Katarina Novak, two brothers, and her son in law, Adrian Comeaux.
Dorith grew up in Vienna, Austria, where she trained and worked as a pharmacy technician. This is also where she met and married the love of her life, Frederick Washington. They were married on July 12, 1952. Their enduring love story continued until her passing.
Dorith, her husband and their two children moved to Fitchburg, MA in 1959. There Dorith worked in customer service at King's Department Store for 20 years. She also volunteered at Burbank Hospital for many years and received numerous appreciation awards from the City of Fitchburg for her volunteer work.
Dorith had a passion for gardening, dancing, cooking and took great delight in crocheting and knitting. She worked hard in her beautiful yard and garden and crocheted detailed curtains, tablecloths and ornaments. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and eating delicious meals and desserts, including many Austrian specialities. She loved dancing waltzes and polkas with Fred and line dancing at the senior center.
She was an active member of the Fitchburg Senior Center and Booster Club, where she taught an exercise class and attended many events, lunches, and bus trips. Dorith loved the beach and taking walks with her husband and dog .She spent many happy days at Old Orchard Beach and Cape Cod with her husband.
The family would like to express their gratitude to both Heywood Hospital and the Care Central Hospice program for the exceptional care and support provided during Dorith's final months.
