Dorothy A. Ruby
Orange – Dorothy Ann (Desseau) Ruby, 72, of 195 West River Street, died Sunday, January 05, 2014 at the Bay State Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Dot was born in New Haven, Connecticut, January 31, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Bessie Desseau. She lived in Orange most of her life, graduating from Mahar Regional High School in 1958.
Dot was a member of the Central Congregational Church in Orange for over 50 years, serving on numerous church committees. She was a former Girl Scout leader for many years, and served on the Finance Committee for the Town of Orange for over 20 years. Dot was one who would always go the extra mile to help anyone in any way that she could.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, William Ruby; a daughter Cheryl Calcari and her husband Chris of Orange; a son, Curtis Ruby of Leominster; three grandchildren, Blayne Calcari and Alyssa and Caitlin Ruby, both of Leominster; a step sister, Bev Trombley of Holyoke and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Lorraine.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Congregational Church, 93 South Main Street, Orange with the Rev. Dr. Megan Leary, pastor officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol. Burial will be at South Cemetery in Orange in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made in Dot’s memory to the Patient’s Assistance Fund of Yankee Dialysis, 115 Wildwood Avenue, Greenfield, MA 01301 or the Central Congregational Church, Mission’s Committee, 93 South Main Street, Orange, MA 01364.
