Dorothy G. (Gagas) Kakitis, 97, formerly of 507 South Royalston Rd., Athol, died early Saturday morning in Baldwinville Nursing Home in Baldwinville after a long illness.
She was born in Chios, Greece March 9, 1907 daughter of the late Athanasious and Filia (Psichoulis) Gagas and lived in Athol most of her life. Her husband, Harry Kakitis died in 1965.
Mrs. Kakitis was employed with the former Ansin and J.F. McElwan shoe factories in Athol for many years prior to her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg and enjoyed her home, cooking, gardening and making afghans.
She is survived by two sons, John H. Kakitis of Athol and Leon "Nick" H. and his wife Sally (Day) Kakitis of Gorham, ME; one brother, Panagos Gagas of Pireaus, Greece, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A service will be held in the J. EDWARD MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 137 Main St., Athol, Tuesday, March 16 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 6-8 PM Monday and from 10-10:30 AM Tuesday. Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
