ATHOL - Dorothy M. (King) Akey, 95 of 640 King Road, Athol, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at home.
She was born in Gardner, on April 28, 1917, the daughter of the late Tuffield and the late Clara (Girouiard) King.
Dorothy grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School. She worked for the Athol Comb shop for a few years and then for the L.S. Starrett Company for 36 years.
Dorothy was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed cooking, going to flea markets, gardening, and was an avid bowler both candlepin and ten pin.
She leaves two sons, Kenneth C. Akey, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Vernon, VT, Ronald G. Akey of Athol; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth C. Akey who died in 2002 and by her brother Arthur King.
A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2013. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Gardner Visiting Nursing Association - Hospice Program, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
