Lancaster - Dorothy R. (Recos) Smith, 74, formerly of Petersham and Athol, passed away on January 10, 2013 at River Terrace Health Care, Lancaster. Dorothy was born in Petersham on August 31, 1937, the daughter of Gabriel and Anna (Koskie) Recos.  She was raised in Petersham and graduated from Petersham High School with the class of 1955.  Mrs. Smith resided in Petersham and Athol for most of her life Mrs. Smith attended Becker Business College in Worcester and studied Medical Secretarial courses, graduating in 1954.  She worked as Administrative Assistant at Harvard Forest in Petersham for thirty-five years until her retirement in 2003.  She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Petersham and a member of the Petersham Country Club, the Curling Club and Athol Council on Aging.  Dorothy volunteered at the polls in Athol on election days and was active in her high school's reunion committee.  She enjoyed golfing and spending time with her family. She leaves her son, Charles Smith III and his wife Lisa of Leominster; her daughter, Dawna Smith of Medford; two brothers, Richard Recos and his wife Shirley of Phillipston, Robert Recos and his wife Nancy of Chesterfield; a sister-in-law, Shirley Recos of Petersham; one granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh Smith of Leominster; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of thirty-two years, Charles R. Smith, Jr., on July 5, 1995; and by two brothers, Gabriel Recos Jr. and George Recos. Memorial services will be held in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange on Saturday February 2, 2013 at 11:00am. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the NEADS (National Education for Assistance Dogs Services – also known as Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans) P.O.
