HUBBARDSTON- Dorothy B. Salminen, 89, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, November 7th at Alliance Healthcare at Baldwinville.
Dorothy was born on September 3, 1929 in Gardner, daughter to the late Douglas and Christel (Charlton) Murdock. She graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1947. After graduating, she wed her husband , Sulo , on June 21, 1947 and they were married for 31 years before his untimely death in 1978.
She was a member, and past president of the Golden Age club.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, baking, sewing, and being outdoors. She was also a painter and played the keyboard and organ. She was always up for a good game of Scrabble.
Dorothy leaves behind one son, Randy and his wife; Gloria of Framingham; three daughters, Sally Bacon and her husband Ernie of New York, Teddie Doane and her husband Bill of Hubbardston, and Viki Blakely of Hubbardston.
She is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Murdock of Iowa, and Art Murdock of West Boylston, and two sisters, Barbara Distefano of Pennsylvania, and Margery Aukstikalnis of Arizona.
She leaves sixteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Wanda Schindo, and Penny Salminen and by two brothers, Bob and Walter, and her sister Lenny.
Calling hours will be held from 11a.m. - 1 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central Street, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at Rural Glen Cemetery, Hubbardston.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy's family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Research Institute, 114, 16th St. #2011,Charlestown, Mass. 02129.
