Dorothy U. (Upham) Temple

Dorothy U. Temple Athol - Dorothy (Upham) Temple, 88, of 688 New Sherborn Road, passed away in her sleep on May 14th.      She was born in Petersham October 27, 1923, the daughter of Harry and Dora (Bryant) Upham.  She graduated from the Petersham High School in 1942 and lived most of her life in Athol.            Dorothy was a member of the South Athol Methodist Church where she worked on the annual church fair and was also a member of the Women’s Society.  While a member of the church, she was  the primary supplier of knitted baby sweaters, scarves, mittens, hats and slippers that were  donated to those in need.  Most recently, she was a member of the Athol-Orange Baptist Church.   She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading, gardening, walking, dancing and visiting with friends and relatives.        Dorothy was employed as a Home Health Aide by the Community Health Service from 1980-1993. She had previously worked at the L.S. Starrett Company and at the Pleasant Street Elementary School in the cafeteria.        She married Roscoe Temple on August 2, 1947 whom she met while working at the L.S. Starrett Company, they were the loving parents of six children: Donald and Julia (LaMarche) Temple and Richard and Jean (Dresser) Temple of Athol, Douglas and Dale (Hill) Stevens of Gardner, Lenard and Miriam (Spector) Temple of Gainesville, VA and Janice Temple of Hanscom AFB, MA.  She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn McCullough and her husband Richard of Windsor, VT and a brother, Lloyd Upham and his wife Theresa of Athol;  thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, a daughter Nancy Temple; two brothers, Donald and Clifford Upham, and a grandson, Richard Temple, Jr.        A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18th at 10:00 AM at the Athol-Orange Baptist Church, Church & Walnut Streets, Athol with the Rev. Mark D. Bariloni, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.        The family suggests donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA  01701 or a charity of your choice.
