ATHOL- Dorothy E. (Knower) Wert, 102, of Athol, formerly of Templeton, died Wednesday, September 27, at Quabbin Valley Health Care, where she resided for two weeks.
Dorothy was born June 29, 1915, in Templeton, daughter of the late Harry H. and Annie (Baker) Knower.
She leaves her daughter, Audrey Pagnotto of Athol, with whom she lived; nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Texas, and Hawaii.
She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd. Together, they operated Leominster Home Beverage in East Templeton for many years. She is also predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Malcolm, and Roger Knower, and two sisters, Evelyn Desendorf and Barbara Bishop.
Dorothy was employed at Fontaine Bros. in Gardner form many years. In her early years, she was an expert knitter and seamstress.
She enjoyed the simple things in life such as going for rides and observing nature-especially flowers. Dorothy is best known for her "spunk" which she maintained until the end.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, September 30, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 A.M. In Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Narrows Rd., Westminster.
