ORANGE - Douglas Daniel MacDonald,73 died Monday, May 30, 2022 at his home after an illness.
He leaves his longtime friend, Charlene Clute of TX. In the past years, Douglas shared his life with his companion, Arrow.
Douglas was born in Beverly on July 26, 1948 a son of the late Walter D. and Angelina (Cortie) MacDonald. He was a graduate of Beverly High School and from Claude H. Payton Trade School.
Douglas was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Navy with the NMCB5 unit. He also served in the Air National Guard and the Coast Guard, overall her served for over 40 years in the military. He received 13 medals and commendations including 3 for his service in Vietnam; the Vietnam Civil Action Medal; the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He established Arm & Hammer Construction in 1971, where he was a project supervisor.
He organized team spirit baseball and flag football teams. He trained with Bruce Marshall for Karate experience and in 1975 won a Black Belt Championship. He was a strong willed perfectionist which created challenges throughout his life. He was a true Patriot
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday June 9, 2022 , 9:30 -11:30 am in Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Graveside service will follow at Noon in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, MA with Military Honors.
