GARDNER - E. Miriam (Hamalainen) Doody, 90 formerly of 66 Rosewood Drive, Gardner, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
She was born in Fitchburg, on April 21, 1918, the daughter of the late Kalle and the late Anna (Temanen) Hamalainen.
Mrs. Doody grew up in South Ashburnham, she was educated in Ashburnham and graduated from Fitchburg High School.
Mrs. Doody worked in the Public Relations department for the former United Co-Operative Farmers of Fitchburg for many years. She was a member of the Heritage Village Association, the Golden Ager's of Ashburnham, the Forever Young Club, Fitchburg Camera Club, and while she was growing up she was a member of the People's Congregational Church of South Ashburnham.
She enjoyed gardening, making crafts and traveling.
She leaves one son, Charles H. Doody and his wife Karen of Gardner; three grandchildren, Kristin Parlman and her husband Ron; Skky Mastersin; Kreg Doody and his wife Cristie; four great grandchildren, Hannah Parlman, Ashleigh Parlman, Cameron Doody, Carson Doody; and her former daughter in-law, Pat King and her husband Rudy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Doody who died in 1983 and by two brothers, Reino Hamalainen and Uno Hamalainen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, Ashburnham.
A calling hour will be held Friday, April 17, 2009, from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Mack Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made in her memory to the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home - Activities Fund 32 Hospital Road, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Gardner Animal Shelter, 899 West Broadway, Gardner, MA 01440.
