E. Kathleen Hachey

ATHOL - E. Kathleen “Kathy” (Kiernan) Hachey, 95 of 195 Intervale Avenue, Athol, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Athol Memorial Hospital in Athol.     Kathy was born in Dublin, Ireland on December 28, 1915, the daughter of the late Patrick and the late Anne (Hopkins) Kiernan. She was raised and educated in Dublin, Ireland and moved to England in her twenties. She met and married her husband, Bill, in England in 1945. Upon her marriage she moved to Athol, Massachusetts where she has resided ever since. While in Ireland, Kathy worked in the retail industry and more recently worked for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company in Athol for over fifteen years until her retirement. She also assisted her husband with his catering company, Bill Hachey Catering of Athol. Kathy was an avid golfer at Ellinwood Country Club in Athol where she was frequently listed on the winner’s board. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a member the Athol YMCA. Kathy enjoyed traveling, playing cards and knitting. She loved to cook and spend time in her garden. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.     She leaves two daughters, Eileen Romanowicz and her husband James of Salem, NH, Brenda Abel and her husband Steven of Cincinatti, OH; five grandchildren, James Romanowicz of Dallas, TX, Karla Dalton of Newfields, NH, Lyndsey Abel of Washington DC, Lauryn Abel of Columbus, OH, Leayh Abel of Columbus, OH; five great grandchildren, Joseph Grella of FL, Jillian Dalton of Newfields, NH, Charles Dalton of Newfields, NH, Olivia Dalton of Newfields, NH, Logan Romanowicz of Dallas, TX; and many special nieces and nephews around the world.     She was predeceased by her husband of forty five years, William C. Hachey, on July 5, 1990; also by seven brothers, Patrick Kiernan, Christopher Kiernan, Vincent Kiernan, Sean Kiernan, Shamus "Jimmy" Kiernan, Gerard Kiernan, Brendan Kiernan; three sisters, Molly Kiernan, Cissy Whyte and Nancy Eyre.     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.     Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church's Food Pantry, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.   $(document).ready(function(){ });
