GARDNER - Edith D. (Avery) Cormier, 98 of 7 Champagne Rd., Gardner, died peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2009 in the Heywood Hospital of Gardner.
She was born in Fitchburg on July 26, 1910, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Avery.
Mrs. Cormier grew up in Fitchburg and attended schools there. She worked as a sales clerk for the former Allen's Department Store in Fitchburg, the former Rome's Clothing Store, and the Brockelman's Bakery in Fitchburg.
She has been a resident of Gardner for many years. She enjoyed knitting, and has knit several afghans and blankets for her family over the years.
She leaves two daughters, Marilyn A. Preston of Gardner, Lorraine M. Robinson of Fitchburg; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of over twenty years, Camille Cormier, who died in December 1996, and by her sister, Alna Caughlin.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.
