Edith (Reed) Schneider

ATHOL - Edith (Reed) Schneider, 79, of 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol. Edith was born in Gardner on April 17, 1932, the daughter of the late Edmund B. and the late Rachel (Hurd) Reed.  She graduated from Fitchburg High School with the class of 1951.  She was raised in Ashburnham and Westminster and had resided in Athol since 1972.  Several years ago, Mrs. Schneider worked in the lunchroom of the former Silver Lake School in Athol and was a nurse's aide for many local nursing homes including Baldwinville Nursing Home.  She was a former member of the Emblem Club of the Athol-Orange Elks Lodge and the Wheelerville Country Club.  More recently, she worked for Catholic Charities and for the Athol Senior Center.  She was an artistic woman who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and oil painting.  She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. She leaves two sons, Geoffrey Schneider of Athol, Joseph Schneider of Greenfield; along with other relatives including a brother, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-three years, Henry Schneider, on January 14, 2004, and by her sister, Bertha. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.  Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery in Athol.
