Granville, NY - Edmund J. "Butch" Cucchi, Jr., age 53, of Granville, New York and formerly of Athol,died on Monday, December 3, 2007 as the result of an automobile accident.
Edmund was born on September 5, 1954 in Athol, Massachusetts the son of the late Edmund J. and JoAnne (Henry) Cucchi.
Edmund grew up in Athol and graduated from the Athol High School in 1972. "Butch" the name everybody knew him by, worked with his father who owned the Royale Cafe in Athol. He was a member of the Elks Club in Athol. He moved to New York State in 1983. He was employed at Skyline Manufacturing in Fair Haven, Vermont for about 20 years. Since 2004, Butch had been employed as a Correction's officer for the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Butch was a sports enthusiast. He played softball for many years and was a part of winning many championships. He loved pitching. Butch was an avid bowler, and again was a major contributor to many team championships in this sport as well. He enjoyed playing basketball as well. Butch enjoyed cribbage and playing cards, a little less strenuous activity. He was an ardent Celtics and Yankee fan, and it goes without saying, he hated the Red Sox. Butch also tended bar for a number of years, enjoying the camaraderie. Butch was quite the jokester, and was always ready for a good laugh.
In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by a brother Stephen J. Cucchi who died in 1980.
Survivors are his two sons: Edmund J. Cucchi III and his girlfriend, Kathryn Tatko of Granville, NY and Ryan J. Cucchi of Manchester, CT., two sisters: Leslie Duffy and her husband Ken and Jo-Ellen Cucchi, all of Athol. Also surviving is Butch's former wife and Edmund the III's mother, Nancy (Gebo) Cucchi. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Family will receive callers from 9 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Athol.
