ATHOL - Edward R. "Cookie" Bastine, 65, of 224 South Street, Athol, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Leominster on May 16, 1944, the son of the late Aldolphus Junior and the late Lovina Marie (Comeau) Bastine.
Edward was raised and educated in Leominster and moved to Athol fifty years ago. Many years ago, Cookie worked for the former McElwain Shoe Company in Athol and the former Dual Plastics in Athol. He was employed by the former Union Twist Drill for fifteen years, retiring from their location in Worcester in the 1980s. Cookie enjoyed his memories of day-trips with his brother-in-law and close friend, the late Bobby Shelton, who died in 2006. Edward was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his loving family.
He leaves his wife of thirty-nine years, Gail P. (LaFountain) Bastine; three sons, Edward R. Bastine, Jr. of New Bedford, Joey R. Bastine of Athol, Michael A. Bastine of Brookfield; his sister, Edna Wilson of Athol; his brother, Donald Bastine of Athol; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Franco-American Naturalization Club, 592 South Street, Athol.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society's New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
