Edward P. Hanks
Orange – Edward P. “Uncle Eddy†Hanks, 68, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
Edward was born in Gardner, MA December 2, 1945 the son of the late Leon and Doris (Boisse) Hanks. He grew up in Gardner where he attended schools and lived most of his life and for the past two years has resided in Orange.
Edward worked for Boucher Construction Company in Leominster retiring in 2010. He was a longtime truck driver for People’s Fuel, Prescott Trucking, Goguen Transportation and Chicoine Construction. He also operated his own company, Ed Hanks Construction for ten years.
He loved boating on the Connecticut River, going camping with family and friends, meeting his friends for coffee in Templeton, watching golf, football and NASCAR racing, especially Dale Earnhardt. He will be greatly missed by his wife and three children.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Debra (Cormier) Hanks; his children, Edward P. Hanks, Jr. and his wife Sherri of Otter River, a daughter, Deborah Scaplen and her husband Jim of Phillipston and a son Matthew Hanks and his wife Crystal of Baldwinville; a brother, Kenneth Hanks and his wife Anita of Gardner. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and many good and close friends and his special cats, Stripes, little Ava and Princess. He was predeceased by three brothers, Dick, Francis and Wayne Hanks and two sisters, Janice Farnsworth and Nancy Clavette.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, MA. A graveside service will be Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Notre Dame Cemetery in Gardner with Deacon Stanley Baczewski of Holy Spirit Church in Gardner officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Edward’s name to: the Orange Ambulance Training Fund, c/o Orange Fire Dept., 18 Water St., Orange, MA 01364.
