Edward A. Howard, Sr.
Orange – Edward A. Howard, Sr., 82, of 383 East River Street, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
Edward was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, July 8, 1931, the son of Phillip and Hazel (Coombs) Howard. He grew up in Swampscott where he attended schools, later moving to Manchester, NH where he lived for 44 years and for the past three years has resided in Orange.
Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Manchester. He worked as a machinist in Lynn and Peabody for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked at the Manchester Airport for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and enjoyed working on puzzles, having put together many puzzles that took him several months. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Pearl (Roussin) Howard; two sons, Edward A. “Skip†Howard, Jr. and his wife Sue and Calvin Howard, both of Lynn; two step-daughters, Barbara Graham of Athol and Elizabeth Chappini of Travis City, MI; two sisters, Virginia Heath of NH and Carol Hutchin of Lynn. He also leaves several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, and Athol with the Rev. Fr. Krzysztof Korcz pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church officiating. There will be a calling hour Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M and burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
