Edward L. Lepkowski, 96, of Gardner, MA, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born in Gardner on July 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Stanley and Jennie (Bogdanowicz) Lepkowski. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1947 and the Industrial Technical School of Boston in 1958.

Edward is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen A. Lepkowski, a daughter, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband, Alan, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah A. Lepkowski, a brother, Leonard Lepkowski, and a sister, Eleanor Carlson.

A proud Korean War veteran, Edward had a distinguished 60-year career as an electrician and business agent with Local 256 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). During his career, he earned the honor of serving as a local representative at various state, federal, and international conventions, a testament to his leadership and dedication to his trade. 

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, passionate about teaching these skills to younger generations and helping to organize local fishing derbies. His love for the outdoors and mentorship left a lasting impact on many.

Outside of his professional life, Edward was deeply committed to his community and his civic engagement extended far beyond his personal interests. He gathered his network of tradesmen to help complete numerous projects for Gardner including the Monument Park Bandstand, Gardner Chair, and Riverside Bridge and served over 25 years on the Gardner Redevelopment Authority. He played an active role in local and state political campaigns, worked as part of various boards to promote educational development such as a new kindergarten, the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, and served as trustee at Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC). His efforts were instrumental in advancing conservation programs and community development. 

Throughout his life, Edward held leadership roles in many local organizations, including the Polish American Veterans, Knights of Columbus, PACC, Otter River Sportsmen’s Club, and AARP. 

He received multiple lifetime achievement awards including the City of Gardner Citizen of the Year award in 2009 and the MWCC Presidential Commendation Service Above Self Award in 2011. His commitment to the betterment of the community he loved was unwavering and his legacy of service will be remembered by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held at Mack Funeral Home, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA on January 22, 2025 from 3:30 -5:30 pm. 

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 23, 2025 with a mass at 11am in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner, MA. 

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
