ATHOL - Edward H. Marquis, 73 of 389 Radcliff Street, Athol, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at home after an illness.
He was born in Athol, on August 22, 1932, the son of the late Leo R. and the late Irene (Chicoine) Marquis. Edward grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1950.
Mr. Marquis was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Airforce.
He was employed at the L.S. Starrett Company for 39 years retiring in 1994 as Office Manager.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church a member of the Edward H. Phillips Athol American Legion Post No. 102, the Athol-Orange Lodge of Elks Lodge No. 1837, the Wheelerville Club and the Athol Golden Ages.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and trips to foxwoods.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Barbara L. (Valley) Marquis; four daughters, Diane L. Praplaski and her husband Jim of Phillipston, Cynthia A. Kaczmarczyk and her husband Danny of Athol, Audrey J. Thompson of Athol, Jane M. Giroux and her husband Russell of Athol; two sons, Edward H. Marquis of Atlanta, GA, Leo D. Marquis of Longwood, FL; a son inlaw Jeffrey Thompson of Orange; two sisters, Gloria Robichaud of Athol, Rita Batchelor and her husband Clifford of Athol; two brothers, Raymond Marquis and his wife Caroline of Athol, Richard Marquis and his wife Mary of Athol; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leo Marquis
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006, at 10:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol, MA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Our Lady Immaculate Church - Building Fund 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
