ATHOL - Edward J. Taintor, Sr., 74 of 70 Drury Ave., Athol, died Sunday, July 09, 2006, at home.
He was born in Phillipston, on May 5, 1932, the son of the late Loren and the late Mary (Conley) Taintor.
Edward graduated from Athol High School in 1950. He earned a Bachelor´s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fitchburg State College and a Master´s Degree in Industrial Education from Keene State College.
He served as a Seaman First Class in the U.S Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He married his wife Margaret (O´Brien) Taintor on June 6, 1953.
He taught Industrial Arts for 30 years, first at the Mahar High School and then for the Athol-Royalston Regional School District. He was then empoyed at the Otter River State Forest Department of Conservation and Recreation for 10 years.
His other activities included serving as a Scout Leader, a volunteer on the Our Lady Immaculate Finance Committee, a Co-Advisor on the Mahar Fish and Game Club, teaching Adult Education Evening Practical Arts courses at Mahar and Athol and courses at the Morgan Memorial Fresh Air Camp, as well as teaching at the Northamption V.A. He was a precinct representative for the town of Athol for many years.
He enjoyed camping hiking, fishing, cross country skiing and most of all, spending time outdoors with his family.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Margaret (O´Brien) Taintor; one daughter, Margaret M. Upshaw and her husband Curtis of Petersham; two sons, Edward J. Taintor, Jr. and his wife Ann of Madera, CA, Bartlett J. Taintor and his wife Kate of Webster, MA; one sister, Patricia Parker of Orange; one brother, Loren Russell Taintor, Jr. and his wife Joy of East Templeton; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Ellen Taintor and by a sister, Mary Lawson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 13, 2006, at 10:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2006, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church - Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
