Gardner - Edwina E. (Ambroze) Marchegiani, 90 of 237 Lancaster Way Cheshire CT. and formerly of 21 Winslow St and Heywood Place, Gardner, died Monday December 24, 2012 at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, New Haven CT, following an illness. She was born in Gardner on October 15, 1922, the daughter of Kazimier and Sophie (Plona) Ambroze. Edwina grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School in 1941. Following graduation, Edwina relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where she was employed at Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company, building airplanes. After World War II she returned to Gardner and was employed by the former Florence Stove Manufacturing Company and later worked as a craftswoman weaving rush and fiber seats for the former Nichols and Stones Furniture Company.
Edwina enjoyed 61 years of marriage to the late Raymond Marchegiani who predeceased her in 2009. She took great pride in her home and was devoted to raising her five children. Among the many activities, she played an active role volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a devoted Christian, Wife, Mother and Grandmother. In later years, Edwina’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren, assisting her family and helping to instill great moral values. She leaves behind three daughters, Nancy Croteau and her husband Leonard of Westminster, Ellen Byron and her husband Joseph of Haverhill, Maria Cavaiuolo and her husband Dominic of Cheshire, CT; two sons, Jerome Marchegiani and his wife Laurie of North Andover, Philip Marchegiani and his wife Janet of Boxboro, and thirteen grandchildren; two sisters; Eleanor Chartier of Gardner, and Elizabeth Langevin of West Palm Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister Martha Wood and three brothers, Joseph Ambroze, Leon Ambroze and Franklin Ambroze.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:00 pm in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012, starting at 11:00am - 12:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Westminster 117 Main Street, Westminster, MA 01473 or to a charity of one’s choice.
